The Outstanding Scholars program at the University of Windsor allows exceptional students to work with professors as paid research assistants. More importantly, this program has improved my leadership skills and has helped me give back to my school community!
Alongside the Outstanding Scholars program, I was a volunteer for many different initiatives of different sizes on campus. I am always looking for an opportunity to affect someone's life in a positive manner!

During my entire undergraduate career, I was voted all four years as the year representative for my class of Outstanding Scholars. As a year representative, I voiced the opinions of my fellow Outstanding Scholars across many different disciplines and helped enact change in the program. I have been a part of event planning, open house outreach and overall program improvement. The OSSC gave me an opportunity to connect with fellow researchers in multiple different faculties, and share all the ways we work together to create change in our local communities.
During my last two years, I also took on a role as a mentor to incoming first-year Outstanding Scholars. I assisted them in the transition between high school and post-secondary education, provided them with academic resources, and helped shed light on some of the most confusing parts of university. A major role was also to help them understand their role as a potential research assistant, and how they can be a part of change. This is one of the most rewarding roles I've had. During my freshman year, I had an amazing mentor who paved a path for my success, and I hope that I did the same for each of my mentees.

Under the supervision of Dr. Esam Abdel-Raheem, a partner and I tested the TIMS-301C, which is new laboratory teaching hardware for Signals and Systems. We evaluated the hardware based on its ease of use and effectiveness for learning in classroom settings. A proposal was also written to encourage faculty to invest in more lab equipment for communication systems. It was great to be a part of a potential change that could affect the quality of education in the faculty of engineering.
I was the treasurer for Sending Sunshine, a campus-wide charity group that aims to solve the loneliness crisis in senior populations. Through the creation of handmade cards, the group hopes to boost feelings of community and belonging. Besides general group activities, I was in charge of the financial records needed for the group's ratification with the student association. It is initiatives like these that remind you of core human values: love and peace.

UWindsor SOS is one of the largest student-run organizations on campus, with the goal of providing accessible education to communities in Latin America. To raise funds, the group provides exam tutorials to help students prepare for their upcoming assessments. This was one of my first volunteer experiences in university, and I was in charge of outreach for the faculty of engineering. I led class talks and tutorial promotion, and also earned a Volunteer of the Month award!
